First Clear Look At Hero’s 421cc Engine For The XPulse 400

Is Hero using the Indian National Rally Sprint Championship (INRSC) to evaluate the upcoming XPulse 400?

Off late, there’s been a lull in terms of news related to Hero MotoCorp’s upcoming XPulse 400. What's exactly happening? Well, here's a clear look at what could potentially be the engine of this upcoming Hero bike.

Hero brought a new rally bike at the Indian National Rally Sprint Championship (INRSC) in Bengaluru, in addition to its rally-spec XPulse 200 4V Rally. This new Hero bike was entered into the group A category, which is for motorcycles with engine displacement of 400cc and above. This hints that the engine may be the 421cc unit that was expected to power the XPulse 400 and Xtreme 400S.

From the last time the XPulse 400 was spied testing on public roads, we know that there will be two variants of the motorcycle, and that the engine should be good enough to pump out 40PS and 40Nm.

Considering how the XPulse 200 4V is prepped to rally-spec, we expect this 400cc Hero rally bike to share a lot of its mechanicals with the upcoming road-spec bike. Here’s what to expect from the XPulse 400.

Hero’s motorsport team at INRSC in Bengaluru consisted of five riders, out of which only two used the new rally bike, while the other three racers rode the XPulse 200 4V rally bike. This clearly indicates how Hero is using the rally scene as a testbed to evaluate the 400cc platform, which makes the upcoming XPulse 400 a very exciting prospect.

Expect Hero to price the XPulse 400 at around Rs 2.70 lakh, ex-showroom, and launch it in the second half of this year. This bike does look enticing and could properly rival the KTM 390 Adventure and upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.
