Triumph India To Launch The Speed Twin Tomorrow
The Speed Twin is likely to be priced under Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom
- The Speed Twin is essentially the street-friendly version of the sporty Thruxton.
- Shares the same engine as the Thruxton, making 97PS and 112Nm.
- Primary competitors in the Indian market would be the Kawasaki Z900 RS and BMW R nineT.
Triumph Motorcycles India is all set to launch the Speed Twin modern classic in India tomorrow. The Speed Twin is a more street-friendly variant of the sporty-looking cafe racer, the Thruxton. Aptly so, it also features the Thruxton’s powertrain. The 1200cc liquid-cooled parallel twin engine produces 97PS at 6750rpm and 112Nm at 4950rpm. To rein in all that power, the Speed Twin features ride-by-wire with three riding modes: Road, Rain & Sport. It also gets dual-channel ABS and switchable traction control.
The ergonomics are a little more laid-back when compared to the Thruxton, thanks to the wide one-piece handlebar. We rode the motorcycle in Spain and you can check out the review here.
Other notable features of the bike include a standard engine immobiliser, a multi-function semi-digital instrument cluster and LED indicators along with LED tail lamp.
Bookings for the bike have already commenced unofficially for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. When launched, it would compete against the Kawasaki Z900 RS and BMW R nineT. It is likely that Triumph will sell the bike in India via the CBU route, just like the new Street Twin. That’s because the current taxation system has resulted in a considerable hike in the prices of CKD bikes, which has forced Triumph to go the CBU way for certain models. We believe the motorcycle will command a price tag of just under Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom, pan-India. Stay tuned to ZigWheels.com and its social handles for live launch updates!
