2021 Triumph Speed Twin Pre-bookings Open

The 2021 Triumph Speed Twin has been teased for the Indian market via the company’s social media platforms, hitting at its imminent launch. Dealer partners across India have also started accepting pre-bookings for the bike for a token amount of Rs 50,000.

So what’s new for 2021? The bike sees a couple of cosmetic updates, a revised engine tune, and better underpinnings. For starters, the bike features anodised headlight mounts, new mudguard mounts, and a refreshed graphics scheme.

At the heart of the Speed Twin lies the same 1200cc parallel-twin engine. It gets a revised engine tune for 2021, for an output of 100PS at 7250rpm -- 3PS more than the EU4/BS4 model. And even though the 112Nm peak torque remains the same, it is spread more evenly and peaks at 4250rpm, 500rpm lower. In fact, 100Nm of peak torque is available at revs as low as 3000rpm.

Triumph says this is possible due to lighter internals, high-compression pistons, revised ports and cam profiles, and a new intake system. More details here.

The revised engine tune is complemented by new hardware. It gets a 43mm Marzocchi USD fork, new lightweight 12-spoke alloy wheels, and grippy Metzeler Racetec RR tyres. Top-shelf Brembo M50 monobloc calipers replace the old axially mounted ones for better braking performance.

The rest of the bike is pretty much the same. It retains all of its retro elements, such as the circular headlamp, twin pod info cluster, Monza-style fuel filler cap, and flat bench seat.

Considering the updates, we think Triumph could price the 2021 Speed Twin around the sub-Rs 10 lakh price tag, making it Rs 40,000-Rs 45,000 dearer than the outgoing model. Expect the British manufacturer to launch the Speed Twin in July 2021 and follow it up with deliveries in August.
