While Tata Motors currently retails the Tiago hatchback with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, the carmaker is set to give it a CNG option. Our dealer sources have confirmed that unofficial bookings of the Tiago CNG have commenced for a token amount of up to Rs 11,000, depending on the dealership. The Tiago CNG is slated for launch next month, with deliveries to commence in December.
The petrol-powered 1.2-litre engine in the Tiago currently makes 86PS that drives the front wheels. Expect a lower state of tune in pure CNG mode. As for transmissions, expect it to be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox, though an AMT option can’t be ruled out.
Coming to the variants on offer, the Tiago CNG could be limited to the mid-spec XT and XZ. The feature list includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls, a 4-speaker sound system, manual HVAC, remote keyless entry, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and a tyre puncture repair kit.
Currently, the Tiago XT and XZ’s prices start from Rs 5.50 lakh and Rs 6.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Expect the CNG varians to be priced at a premium of up to Rs 60,000 depending on the variant. CNG cars ain't something brand new for India, as a lot of popular models such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, and the Maruti Suzuki WagonR. Here's a curated list of the best of them.
