The Baby Panigale Is About To Land In India

It will be the first BS6-compliant product from Ducati in the country

  • It will replace the outgoing 959 Panigale.
  • Continues to be powered by a 955cc L-twin but output has increased.
  • Gets a comprehensive IMU-assisted electronics package.
  • Ducati Panigale V2 First Ride Review

While the affordable side of the two-wheeler market has almost entirely completed the transition to BS6 emission norms, big bikes are still lagging quite far behind. But things are slowly starting to kick off on this side of the spectrum too, with Ducati all set to launch its first BS6-compliant bike in India tomorrow. The model in question is the sexy Panigale V2 which we’ve already ridden on track in Spain and you can read about it here.

The V2 will fill the slot vacated by the now discontinued 959 Panigale, becoming the entry-level sports bike in Ducati’s lineup. Entry level doesn’t mean sparsely equipped, mind you. The baby Pani gets a 6-axis IMU, cornering ABS, multi-level lean-sensitive traction control, wheelie control, a bi-directional quickshifter and engine brake control. The 955cc L-twin motor has been carried over from the 959 but output has been bumped up to 155PS and 104Nm, an increment of 5PS and 2Nm.

As far as pricing is concerned, we expect Ducati to slap on a sticker of around Rs 15.50 lakh to Rs 16 lakh, and with not much competition around this sexy product, we don’t think the brand should have too much trouble moving units. Its closest rival will be the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R as and when it receives its BS6 update, though in terms of price, it sits closer to the Ninja ZX-10R.
