Honda’s SP125 Gets The OBD-2 Updates

The bike gets a nominal price hike of Rs 927

Right on the cusp of the BS6 Phase 2 norms being enforced, Honda has launched its 2023 SP125 sporty commuter motorcycle. It gets the necessary OBD-2 updates and now carries a sticker price of Rs 85,131 (ex-showroom Delhi).

That’s a hike of Rs 927 over the outgoing drum variant. The new disc brake trim costs Rs 89,131, which too is Rs 927 costlier than before. The marginal premium shouldn’t affect your buying decision much. However, the SP125 remains one of the more premium contenders in the 125cc sporty commuter segment, facing stiff competition from the likes of the TVS Raider 125, Bajaj Pulsar 125, and the Hero Glamour 125.

Honda hasn’t tinkered much with the SP125. It is still powered by the same 125cc mill that makes 10.8PS and 10.9Nm. Honda’s ACG starter (silent starter) system continues to exist.

Beside the mandatory OBD-2 sensor, the only other new bit on the SP125 is a wider 100-section rear tyre. Ideally, this should make the ride a bit more stable. Will it have a slight detrimental impact on the fuel efficiency remains to be seen. There's also a new blue colour added to the lineup, taking the tally of colours on offer to five.

If future OBD-2 updates for other Honda products carry a similarly nominal premium, it shouldn’t make the buyers too fussy. Expect more such updates, from other manufacturers too, coming in the next few days.
