At least three more models are set to hit the market before the month comes to a close
September has been pretty action-packed thus far with launches such as the Tata Jet Edition SUVs, Kia Sonet X Line, Hyundai Venue N Line, revised Citroen C5 Aircross and more. Well, the month isn’t over yet and even though the festive season is still some time away, there are several more important models due to arrive before September ends.
Volvo XC90 Recharge: September 21
The Swedish carmaker’s flagship SUV is no stranger to plug-in hybrid powertrains in India, but the updated system will offer an even better electric range and more power than the standard mild-hybrid version. The latest Volvo XC90 Recharge will be launched with a leather-free interior, a seven-seater layout alongside top-spec features.
Tata Tiago EV: September 28
Tata’s entry-level Tiago will get an EV powertrain soon and we’ll get our first look at the electric hatchback on the 28th of this month. Interestingly, the Tiago EV will get cruise control and a single-pedal driving function that aren’t even offered on the larger Tigor EV.
Mercedes EQS 580 4Matic: September 30
Earlier in August, the Mercedes EQS made its debut in India, starting with the fully imported AMG variant. The carmaker is gearing up to launch a less pricey variant of the electric luxury sedan in the form of the EQS 580 4Matic that’ll roll-out from the Chakan plant from September 30 onwards. The AWD EV is only slightly less powerful than the AMG variant and will be flagged off by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari.
Maruti Grand Vitara
We also expect Maruti to announce the prices of its flagship SUV, at least for select variants. The Grand Vitara will be the first Maruti to get a strong hybrid option in India, alongside an AllGrip all-wheel drive option that’ll be exclusive to the mild-hybrid manual transmission version. In addition, it packs several premium features such as a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera and six airbags.

Overseas Debuts
BMW’s fastest M car, the XM plug-in hybrid SUV, will break cover in the US on the 27th of this month with a 650PS and 800Nm V8-powered hybrid drivetrain. On the other side of the Atlantic, Mercedes is gearing up to introduce a new AMG version of the C-Class, but it will be a plug-in hybrid this time around.
