Luxurious barge that ditches one of its seats for true business class airline experience to be showcased on September 3rd

  • Similar to the XC90 Excellence, but ditches the front passenger seat.
  • Instead, gets a 17-inch touchscreen display which can also be used as a table or footrest.
  • Ventilated massaging seats and a refrigerator complete with a bottle and glass holders.
  • Powered by T8 Twin-Engine motor good for 407PS and 640Nm of peak torque.

What you see here might look like the standard XC90 and the XC90 Excellence that are currently on sale in India but it actually is the XC90 Excellence Lounge Console. Like the Excellence, those exteriors are actually a facade for a luxurious barge that ditches its conventional 7 seats for 3 seats and multitudes of extravagance. Destined for an India showcase on September 3rd, here’s what it's all about.

The 4-seater XC90 Excellence that is currently on sale in India is already a yacht for the road. It comes with individual reclining rear seats ( read couch) that offers ventilation, acres of leg room, massaging functions and a retractable touchscreen. That’s half the party piece as it also features folding tables, a refrigerator complete with bottle and glass holders, a heated/cooled cup holder and handmade crystal glasses from renowned Swedish glass maker Orrefors.

The Excellence Lounge Console takes the grandeur even further and ditches the front passenger seat for a multifunctional module that can transform into a 17-inch touchscreen display, a table, extra storage for personal items or even a footrest.

Like the Excellence, Nappa leather has been religiously used all over the cabin accentuated by high quality open-pore wood. The cargo space is partitioned and the luxury SUV also comes with a 20-speaker, 1400-watt Bowers & Wilkins sound system.

All this opulence comes at the cost of weight. But the XC90 Excellence Lounge Console has no reason to worry as it is expected to pack the same T8 twin-engine as the standard Excellence. A 2.0-litre petrol turbocharged and supercharged ( yes, both) motor is paired with an electric motor to produce 407PS and 640Nm of peak torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission is deployed to send power to all four wheels. It also gets an Orrefors crystal gear shifter and all the safety equipment and goodies as the XC90 Excellence.

The XC90 Excellence is currently priced at a leisurely Rs 1.31 crore (ex-showroom Delhi). The Lounge Console is speculated to cost above that and considering its niche appeal, Volvo might only bring in units depending on customer demand.
