The Toyota Innova Crysta Can Now Be Kitted To Save Lives

Toyota is now offering an ambulance version of the Innova Crysta

  • Toyota will convert the Innova Crysta into an ambulance.
  • The carmaker has tied up with Pune-based Pinnacle industries for the same.
  • Will come in two variants: Basic and Advanced.
  • Advanced version has all the equipment for life-saving operations.

The Toyota Innova Crysta is now capable of saving lives in case of an emergency, courtesy the ambulance conversion kit made by Pune-based Pinnacle Industries. Considering the Crysta was a popular choice even after the Hycross’ induction, Toyota has resurrected the MPV with a minor design update.

Coming back to the Innova Crysta ambulance, Toyota will offer it in two variant choices: Basic, and Advanced. As the name suggests, the entry-level version gets all the basics including an auto loading stretcher, partition separating the driver and patient’s cabin, a front-facing paramedic seat, disinfectants, medicinal equipment cabinet and an emergency kit.

The Advanced version, though, is equipped even for a minor surgery. On offer will be an automated external defibrillator, a multiparameter monitor, oxygen cylinders with delivery system, spine board for spinal injuries, a kendrick extrication system for head, neck and back injuries, as well as sockets for power supply.

Clearly, the Innova Crysta has gone under the knife to suit its role. Obviously, the middle and third row have been done away with and in place comes the stretcher and a bench for the doctor. You can access this part of the cabin from the boot and not the rear doors, where there's storage accommodating the cylinders. Lastly, there is a partition between the driver and patient’s compartment.

On the outside, the Crysta gets ‘AMBULANCE’ marked in bold with reflectors and a bespoke paint scheme. It also gets a beacon light with a siren in case of emergency.

The Toyota Innova Crysta Ambulance is powered by the familiar 150PS 2.4-litre diesel engine, driving the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine is potent and has plenty of performance onboard, which would be useful in an emergency.

These changes means Toyota will of course charge a premium over the standard Crysta that starts from Rs 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Innova Crysta goes up against the Kia Carens and Mahindra Marazzo, and is an affordable alternative to the Toyota Innova Hycross.
