Maruti Suzuki has discontinued the Std and LXI trims in the Alto and S-Presso. These trims were the entry-level single airbag variants of both models, and can now be had as the Option trims with dual airbags. As a result, the entry-level pricing of both cars have gone up.

Both models will be offered with dual airbags only from now, which is a good move in our opinion. This move comes after a draft from MoRTH has made it mandatory for all cars to have dual airbags as standard. Apart from this, no other changes have been made to both cars.

The Alto gets a 48PS 0.8-litre petrol engine, while the S-Presso gets a 68PS 1-litre three-pot petrol motor. A 5-speed manual is standard in both cars, while the S-Presso can be had with an optional 5-speed AMT. Plus, both cars get a CNG option for those looking to beat the skyrocketing petrol prices.

The Maruti Suzuki Alto will get a generation update later this year, and you can read about it here. The Alto and S-Presso lock horns with entry-level offerings like the Datsun redi-GO and Renault Kwid.
