The Maruti Fronx crossover is the carmaker’s newest sub-four-metre offering that’ll slot neatly between the Baleno and Grand Vitara in Maruti’s NEXA lineup. The hotly anticipated crossover was initially expected to be launched this month, but it seems its price announcement will likely be held by the first week of April, 2023.
Maruti Fronx is feature-packed
Being based on the Baleno, the Fronx inherits its equipment list from the hatchback. It’s packed with the latest nine-inch Smartplay Pro+ infotainment touchscreen, an Arkamys-tuned sound system, wireless phone charger, heads-up display, Suzuki Connect connected car tech, keyless entry, push-button start, rear AC vents and cruise control.
On the safety front, it gets up to six airbags, stability control, a 360-degree camera and standard ISOFIX mounts and rear parking sensors. While the Fronx’s equipment list is impressive, it does lack some premium features such as a sunroof, digital driver’s display and ventilated front seats that some rivals offer.
Brings enthusiast-friendly powertrains
As standard, the Maruti Fronx gets the same 90PS, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, but the NA engine is also offered with an AMT option.
On an exciting note, the Fronx also gets Suzuki’s 1-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine that makes 100PS. It, too, gets the five-speed manual ‘box as standard, but the automatic transmission option is a proper six-speed torque converter with paddle shifters. Later, a CNG variant is also expected to be introduced.
The Maruti Fronx is expected to retail from Rs 8 lakh onwards (ex-showroom) and its turbo-petrol automatic variant will likely be much more expensive. It’ll face off against rivals that include the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon.
