The Hyundai Creta Gets A Midlife Refresh In South Africa

The changes include refreshed looks as well as more kit on board

We know that the Hyundai Creta is due a facelift in India ever since the refreshed version first arrived in the Indonesian market back in November 2021. Now, the facelifted SUV has been introduced in the South African market as well. Here’s a lowdown on everything that’s new in the Creta.

Like the model sold in Indonesia, the bolder front grille, integrated DRLs and recessed headlamps are in line with Hyundai’s latest ‘Parametric Dynamics’ design philosophy which debuted with the 2022 Tucson. Aside from the redesigned bumpers, the revised tail lamps round off the design changes.

Inside, the cabin in the South African-spec model is largely unchanged, but gets an all-black theme. Some key feature additions include a wireless smartphone charger, a rear parking camera with guidelines, as well as electronically adjustable ORVMs. That being said, it doesn’t get the digital driver display or ADAS present in the Indonesian model. Expect these bits to be present in the India-spec 2022 Creta.

Under the hood, the South African Creta is limited to a 115PS 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, with  6-speed manual and CVT gearbox options. For India, Hyundai will likely retain the existing 115PS 1.5-litre diesel and 140PS 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine options, while a 6-speed iMT could be added to the 1.5-litre petrol unit’s gearbox list.

Expect the facelifted Hyundai Creta to reach Indian shores at Auto Expo 2023 which will kick off in January. Prices could start from Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India). It’ll take on the Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun, MG Astor, and some variants of the Mahindra XUV700, Tata Harrier, and MG Hector.
