  • It is similar to the China-spec T-Cross, but longer in length at 4.26 metres.
  • Interior are likely to include a large touchscreen infotainment system as well as a digital instrument cluster.
  • It debuts alongside its sibling, the Skoda Vision IN.
  • It could take on the likes of the Kia Seltos, MG Hector, and Hyundai Creta.

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Media Night saw a variety of models making their debuts. Among them is their first SUV under the India 2.0 strategy called the Taigun. While the SUV is built on the localised MQB-AO-IN platform and based on the T-Cross, it sports a different design.

On the outside, the Taigun borrows plenty of styling cues from the China-spec despite being longer at just 4.26 metres in length. It boasts a typical modern VW design with clean lines and sharp creases. Some notable highlights include a slatted grille, large foglamps, flared wheel arches and connected tail lamps. It also receives body cladding all over to give it a rugged stance. What's more, is that the SUV on display is 90% production ready.

While we are yet to know what's inside the Taigun, we can expect a similar setup to the T-Cross it is based on. This could include a high-mounted infotainment system on the dashboard with the AC vents and climate control knobs below it. Expected features could include a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as a fully digital instrument cluster.

Under the hood, it is expected to be powered by a BS6-compliant 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol mill good for 115PS of power and 200Nm of torque . No diesel engine is expected at the moment, however, a CNG variant could join the lineup later. A more powerful 150PS TSI motor could also be introduced.

The Volkswagen Taigun made its debut alongside its sibling, the Skoda Vision IN. Both SUVs are a part of Volkswagen’s India 2.0 project. The SUV is likely to launch in 2021 in a price range of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom India). Expect more details on the SUV to be revealed once Auto Expo 2020 kicks off. Once launched, it is likely to take on the likes of the Kia Seltos, MG Hector, and Hyundai Creta.
