The SUV was recently spotted in Pune and is expected to be launched after the lockdown
The 2020 Tata Gravitas has been spied in a parking lot in Pune. The 6-seater version of the Tata Harrier was expected to be launched here in April. However, India is currently under a government-imposed lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. Expect the BS6 SUV to be launched soon after the quarantine is lifted, at a starting price of around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
Despite the camouflage, the Gravitas’ resemblance to the Harrier is uncanny. Tata unveiled the car at Auto Expo 2020. It has a larger rear end and a raised roof to accommodate third-row passengers. The most significant design differences are at the rear behind the C-pillar -- a longer overhang and a more upright tailgate than the Harrier. Here’s how the Gravitas differs from its 5-seater sibling.
Inside, the dashboard is identical to the 2020 Harrier. Feature highlights include an 8.8-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment, 9-speaker audio system, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a sunroof. Sadly, the sunroof isn’t as large as the panoramic sunroof in the 2020 Harrier.
The Gravitas is equipped with an intelligent electronic parking brake with hill-hold function, which prevents this behemoth from rolling backwards when you release the parking brake.
It has the same 2.0-litre BS6 diesel engine as the 2020 Harrier which sends 170PS of power and 350Nm of torque to the front wheels. It is paired with a 6-speed manual as standard, but a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed torque converter automatic will also be on offer. All-wheel-drive is unlikely to be offered at launch.
The 2020 Tata Gravitas will rival three-row mid-size SUVs such as the Mahindra XUV500 and the upcoming 6-seater MG Hector. It will also be the SUV alternative to the popular Toyota Innova MPV. Watch this space for our post-lockdown media drive.
