The BMW iX Has Sold Out Its First Batch Just A Day After Its Launch

Buyers will have to wait until April 2022 to take delivery of their electric SUVs

BMW has announced that it has sold out the first batch of iX SUVs just a day after the flagship electric vehicle (EV) was launched in India. Being a CBU SUV, the electric SUV has to be imported in small batches every year. It was launched at an introductory price of Rs 1.16 crore (ex-showroom) and rivals the Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-tron, and Jaguar I-Pace

India gets the standard xDrive 40 variant that gets a 425km range from a 76.6kWh battery pack. It takes just over an hour for the iX to charge up to 80 percent with a 50kW DC fast charger, and about half an hour if you can find a 150kW public charger. BMW’s introductory offer included a complementary 11kW home wallbox that can juice up the SUV within 7 hours.

The BMW iX is powered by a pair of electric motors that produce a combined 330PS and 630Nm, enough power and torque to propel you from 0-100kmph in just 6.1 seconds. A more powerful 530PS xDrive 50 variant is available in global markets, but it hasn’t been announced for India yet.

We also expect the carmaker to launch the Mini Cooper SE electric hatchback and i4 electric sedan in early 2022. BMW will offer another batch of iX SUVs sometime in 2022, and you can watch this space for the bookings announcement. It’s likely to be offered at a higher price than the current SUV’s Rs 1.16 crore (ex-showroom) tag.
