The CES 2022 is on at full speed, and BMW is stealing the spotlight with plenty of geeky tech. We’ve had the colour-shifting iX and the introduction of digital art. But according to this author, the coolest feature has got to be the Theatre Screen, which promises to take in-car entertainment to the next level.
At the press of a button, the 31-inch panorama screen (in 32:9 format) with ultra-sharp 8k resolution drops down from the headliner. And to make it even more special, BMW will be collaborating with ace musician, Hans Zimmer, who will compose a soundtrack for when the screen drops. The ambient lighting will also dim when the rear sunshades roll up automatically as the screen comes down.
The good news doesn’t stop there. The carmaker will be collaborating with Amazon for firestick services for the Theatre Screen. This means you can watch movies via OTT, or download YouTube and stream your favourite ZigWheels videos while you’re on the move. And you needn’t worry about internet speed; the screen will support 5G network.
Taking care of audio quality will be the Bowers and Wilkins surround-sound system. Also, the display tilt can be adjusted for more comfortable viewing.
The Theatre Screen will be made available in upcoming BMW cars. We don't know when and which model it might be offered in, but we think it will be limited to the carmaker’s high-end offerings, at least initially.
