The MG ZS EV Hits Its First Milestone Since Its Launch In India

The carmaker has sold 10,000 units of its premium electric SUV, since its launch in January 2020

  • MG ZS EV crosses the 10,000 unit sales mark in India.
  • It took the EV a bit over three years to achieve this feat.
  • During its course, the carmaker gave it a major midlife facelift.
  • It also got more power and a larger battery pack while the facelift was introduced.
  • MG ZS EV is priced between Rs 3.38 lakh and Rs 27.3 lakh (ex-showroom).

January 2020 saw MG Motor India introduce the ZS EV, its first electric vehicle in India. It’s basically a compact SUV that goes up against the Hyundai Kona Electric. However, the ZS EV did get a warm reception since its debut and the carmaker has now announced it has crossed the 10,000 sales mark on our shores.

Granted, the achievement isn’t as fast as that of the Tata Nexon EV. But do note that the ZS EV is a premium electric vehicle that costs between Rs 23.38 lakh and Rs 27.3 lakh (ex-showroom).

During its life span in the Indian market, MG Motor India gave the ZS EV refreshed styling after the Astor (ZS EV’s ICE equivalent) was introduced. During the process, MG gave it an even more lengthy features list, more power and mainly a larger battery pack. So this is an EV in which you can do long distances without a sweat of range anxiety.

It’s not just the EV’s capabilities that have helped the carmaker achieve these sales figures. But what also helped MG pull in customers is its charging network, which the carmaker is aggressively expanding across India. Moreover, the carmaker will install a wallbox either at your home or office at no extra cost.

Powering the ZS EV is a 176PS electric motor that draws power from a 50.3kWh battery pack. This setup claims to offer a range of 461km. To see how the ZS EV performs in the real world, check out our in-depth first drive review

The MG ZS EV locks horns with the Hyundai Kona Electric and BYD Atto 3. But it can also be considered as a more premium alternative to the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.
