With over five new models expected, it’s no doubt that MG Motor India is gearing up for dominating the 2023 edition of Auto Expo. And now, the carmaker has confirmed that the 4 electric hatchback, which will be a standout model, will be displayed at the show. For the uninitiated, the MG 4 is a premium hatchback that rivals models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and VW ID.3.

The MG 4 has been built from scratch as an all-electric vehicle. At the front, the sleek swept-back LED headlamps and the sporty bumper design gives the front-end an aggressive demeanour. The body cladding on the doors beefs up the side profile, which gets chunky wheel arches and sharp creases. Connected tail lamps act as the icing on the cake.

Its interior is just as modern and upmarket as its exterior. Two minimalist screens, one for the driver and infotainment, take centre stage. Below it are the sleek AC vents that run through the width of the cabin. It also features a two-spoke steering wheel and a high-mounted gear lever for easier access.

Like any MG car in India, the 4 is loaded to the gills with features. Highlights include connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless phone charger and ambient lighting. Passenger safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, electronic stability control, 360-degree camera and a full suite of ADAS.

Now to the powertrain. Internationally, there are two options: Standard and Long Range. The base option gets a 51kWh battery pack that powers a 170PS electric motor, while the Long Range gets a 64kWh battery fueling a 203PS e-motor, and both variants are rear-wheel drive. Depending on the variant you pick and driving conditions, the 4 returns a WLTP-claimed range of up to 579km.

It’s not yet confirmed if MG Motor India plans to launch the 4 here in India. However, the carmaker will certainly gauge customer response, and if good, we could definitely see it here on our shores. Apart from the 4, MG will bring the facelifted Hector and Hector Plus, Air EV and ZS EV as well to the event.
