GST Effect: Indian Motorcycle Reduces Its Prices By Up To Rs 2.5 Lakh

Indian Motorcycle has announced its post-GST (Goods and Services Tax) pricing and has passed on the benefits to its customers by reducing ex-showroom prices by up to 12 per cent, effective July 1, 2017, across India. Under GST, the taxation rate of bikes displacing an engine capacity of 350cc and above now stands at 31 per cent as opposed to 30 per cent before GST came into effect. Despite the hike in taxation, Indian Motorcycle has managed to reduce the pricing of three of its offerings, the Scout, Dark Horse and the Chief Classic, which are on sale across eight showrooms in the cities of Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kochi and Kolkata. Post GST, the Chief Classic has been priced at Rs 21.99 lakh across India, making it 9 per cent cheaper than the pre-GST pricing of Rs 24.2 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Similarly, the price of the Dark Horse has also gone down by 9 per cent and now stands at Rs 21.25 lakh. It is the Scout that has received the maximum reduction in price, as it now costs Rs 12.99 lakh, which is 12 percent lesser than the pre-GST price of Rs 14.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Despite most companies offering GST benefits, customers will only be receiving a marginal advantage over the earlier pricing, since RTO and insurance charges have shot up in most of the states.
