Mahindra XUV300 Is The First BS6-Compliant Sub-4m SUV In India

The 1.2-litre turbo petrol has been updated to comply with the upcoming emission norms well ahead of time
- The XUV300 is the first offering from Mahindra to get the BS6 update.
- The BS6-compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine is available in five variants: W4, W6, W8, W8 optional pack and W8 optional pack dual-tone.

The Mahindra XUV300 becomes the first sub-compact SUV to get a BS6-compliant powertrain option. Mahindra has updated the 1.2-litre turbo petrol to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. It is also the first SUV from the Indian carmaker’s stable to get a BS6-compliant power plant. Similar to the current version, the XUV300 is available in five variants: W4, W6, W8 and W8 Optional, and W8 (Optional Pack Dual Tone) and carries a premium of Rs 20,000 over the current non-BS6 variants.

The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 110PS and 200Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The XUV300 also gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine, which is yet to be updated. The Indian carmaker is making the switch to BS6 in a phased manner and we expect the diesel XUV300 and other SUVs to get the update soon.Â
Meanwhile, Mahindra is also cooking up a more powerful version of the XUV300 that will use 1.2-litre Turbo GDI unit expected to produce 130PS and 230Nm of torque. Its key rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Ecosport, Hyundai Venue, and the Tata Nexon.Â
