Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi Unveiled With New Hybrid Engine And A Host Of Updates For 2021

Yamaha just did a “One more thing!” at the virtual launch event for the FZ-X. Apart from launching the neo-retro styled motorcycle, it also unveiled the 2021 Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid and Ray-ZR 125 Fi Hybrid which have been updated comprehensively for this year. Both scooters get a host of new features along with a hybrid engine and new colours to choose from.
The Fascino 125 Hybrid now comes with a full-digital instrument console which looks like it’s been picked right off the Ray-ZR. However, the console now has Bluetooth connectivity (exclusive for disc variant), which lets users access a variety of information from the scooters. Also worth highlighting on the Fascino is the full-LED headlight with a horizontal LED DRL and an LED tail light, features that were missing in the older model. Other notable updates include a side stand cut-off switch and an optional USB charger. Similar updates are available on the Ray-ZR 125 as well.
The engine is the second biggest update for 2021. Both the Fascino 125 and Ray-ZR 125 are now powered by Yamaha’s 125cc Hybrid engines, which basically work like hybrid cars. The engine works in tandem with a battery to help extract 16 percent more mileage while producing 30 percent more torque (compared to the 113cc Fascino). That’s mind-boggling considering that these scooters already delivered the best fuel efficiency in their class according to our tests. There's a noticeable spike in its torque output as well, which has risen from 9.7Nm to 10.3Nm. Its power, though, remains the same as before, at 8.2PS. Oh, and both the scooter continue to use their silent start and start-stop system.
The hardware is the same as before. What’s surprising is the fact that neither of these scooters have gained any weight inspite of the updates. They continue to be the lightest in the segment, weighing in at just 99kg.
Considering the number of updates, we expect a substantial jump in price for both the Fascino 125 Hybrid and RayZR 125 Hybrid, which is likely to be around Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 over the current model. Yamaha says the prices will be revealed by the end of this month or early July. For reference, the 2020 Fascino 125 in its base variant retails at Rs 72,030 while the Ray-ZR 125 starts at Rs 73,330 (both ex-showroom, Delhi).
