It’ll come with not only a cleaner motor but also a bunch of updates
There’s no doubt that the Suzuki Katana is one of the most gorgeous motorcycles on sale in the world today, and it seems like Indians will get a chance to feast their eyes on it once again. After showing the Katana at the Auto Expo 2020, Suzuki India has finally teased its launch and we expect it to be here by the end of July 2022.
For 2022, Suzuki has given the Katana a BS6-compliant motor. The 999cc inline-four engine now makes 152PS and 106Nm: 2PS more but 2Nm less than its predecessor. Other updates on the bike include a ride-by-wire throttle (with three riding modes), a 5-step traction control system and a bi-directional quickshifter.
Underpinnings on the international-spec streetfighter include an inverted fork and a link type suspension at the rear. The bike gets twin discs at both ends handling braking duties. Its sporty credentials are backed by 17-inchers at both ends, with a 120-section rubber at the front and a massive 190-section tyre at the rear. That said, its 215kg kerb weight coupled with the low 140mm ground clearance might be a bit of a problem on our roads.
We expect the Katan to carry a price tag of around Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). Once here, it’ll go up against the likes of the BMW S1000R.
