Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has launched a public trial of e-scooters at key bus stops in Mumbai. When bus passengers alight at these bus stops, they can use the e-scooters to travel to their final destination. E-scooter stations are also being set up at commercial and residential areas.
The civic-run transport body states that it is aiming to offer an end-to-end integrated transportation solution to people of Mumbai. BEST claims to be India's first bus transport operator to offer such integrated last mile connectivity services.
The project has been implemented in partnership with Vogo, one of India’s leading shared mobility companies. The base fare for these electric scoots is Rs 20, with Rs 3 per km travelled and Rs 1.50 per minute, BEST stated in a release.
Passengers can use an app to unlock these e-scooters, whose speed is limited to 25 kmph. This makes them extremely safe for city commutes, not to mention no air or noise pollution and faster travel with reduced congestion. Their limited speed also means that you don’t need a two-wheeler licence to ride one of them.
In a related development, Yamaha has also announced their entry into the Indian EV leasing space. Check out more on this development here.
