Leaked patent drawings provide new information about the upcoming electric scooter

Suzuki Burgman Electric Patent Drawing Leaked

It has been over a year and half since we first spotted a production-ready electric version of the Suzuki Burgman in Delhi. Well, the Burgman Electric was even spotted undergoing ARAI certification in Pune, which signalled that its launch was on the horizon. However, it was revealed to us that the Burgman Electric’s launch was significantly delayed owing to the high ambient temperatures of our country.

Suzuki is renowned for prioritising safety and quality – in fact it's alleged that a part as minor as a saree guard for the Suzuki Hayabusa was extensively tested before it was put into production. Suzuki is also known for being tight-lipped about their upcoming offerings, and such has been the case with the Burgman Electric. While all the spy shots gave us an idea of how the scooter would look, we had no clue what was underneath its bodywork.

However, a leaked patent drawing reveals that the upcoming e-scooter is built around the same frame as its petrol-powered sibling, but the AC motor is positioned way forward in the frame – just below the seat, while the inside of the floorboard smartly houses the AC-DC converter. While we still do not have details about the motor’s power rating, we now know that it won’t be a hub motor.

While the petrol-powered Burgman boasts massive underseat storage, its electric iteration would not be able to boast the same, as a big chunk of this storage area houses the battery pack. This battery pack is said to be much larger than the ones found on current EV scooters, thus indicating higher riding range on a single charge.

We expected the Japanese brand to launch this e-scooter later this year; however, there might be a massive delay. One possible reason for this delay could be the fact that the Japanese brand is waiting for the Indian Government’s policy on battery standardisation.

This Burgman Street electric scooter is slated to become the first EV launch from Suzuki India, and it will rival the Ola S1 Pro, Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak.
