This is a huge milestone not only for the Taycan but for the current trend of electrification in the automotive industry

  • The Cayenne is Porsche’s highest selling model at 62,451 units.

  • The Taycan is offered in three trims (4S Turbo and Turbo S) with multiple battery and powertrain combinations.

  • India could get the Taycan in 2022.

Porsche has recently revealed the sales figures for the first three quarters of 2021 (January - September), and there’s some big news for its first all-electric offering, the Taycan. For the first time, the electric sedan has managed more sales than the iconic 911. Yes, you read that right, an electric model has outsold a traditional internal combustion engined model, the 911 at that which is a crown jewel in Porsche’s model lineup.

According to the sales report, 28,640 units of the Taycan EV were sold compared to the 911’s 27,972 units. That said, the Cayenne is the carmaker’s best-seller with 62,451 units, followed by the Macan at 61,944 units.

The Taycan is offered in three configurations: 4S, Turbo and Turbo S, that can be specced with 79.2kWh and 93.4kWh battery packs. The electric powertrain delivers, 571PS (4S), 670PS (Turbo) and 751PS (Turbo S). WLTP claimed range figures stand at 463km (4S), 450km (Turbo), and 420km (Turbo S).

Overall, this revelation is a big positive for the automotive industry in its quest to transition towards an all-electric future, and should help ease concerns of whether EVs will sell as much as internal-combustion-engined models. In India, we could get the Porsche Taycan in 2022 starting with the 4S, followed by the Taycan Cross Turismo at a later date.
