Ather Energy Announces Second Manufacturing Facility, Production To More Than Triple

The annual production capacity will go up from 1.2 lakh units to 4 lakh

Continuing with its aggressive expansion strategy, Ather Energy has commissioned a second manufacturing facility in Hosur to be ready for 2022. With the new plant, the EV maker aims to increase its annual production to 4,00,000 units from the current 1,20,000.

Ather’s new manufacturing facility will also be dedicated to lithium-ion battery manufacturing. Yes, the startup develops its batteries in-house. In fact, the Ather 450X and 450 Plus rely on 90 percent localisation, allowing the brand to price them competitively. And now, with the government introducing several benefits for EVs, prices have dropped further.

The Ather 450X and Ather 450 Plus have been registering 20 percent growth in month-on-month sales since November 2020, and the new manufacturing facility will only help the brand cater to the demand. In fact, Ather Energy reports vehicle booking has quadrupled from April to October 2021.

In the last few months, we have seen Ather Energy expand steadily to newer cities, and now, the startup aims to commence operations in 100 cities by March 2023. Furthermore, the company will set up 150 Ather Experience Centers by then.

This move from Ather Energy comes at the right time, given that its competitor, Ola Electric, has been struggling to meet timelines.
