Ather 450X registers highest-ever sales figures in the month
Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has released its sales report for September 2022, and the details are quite intriguing. In an interesting turn of events, premium e-scooters have managed to give the budget EVs a run for their money. Here’s a closer look at the highest selling EVs of the month:

This year, the Ather 450X, TVS iQube and even the Bajaj Chetak received their share of updates, which could be the primary reason for the spike in sales and a respectable year-on-year growth. Furthermore, these e-scooters have even outsold low-speed electrics and even Okinawa’s premium and popular offering, the Ridge+.

However, brands like Ampere, Hero Electric and Ola Electric are not mentioned in this report. But the Federation Of Automobile Dealers Association’s (FADA) September 2022 report reveals that Ola has sold 9432 units while Hero Electric and Ampere have registered 7880 and 6073 units respectively.
That said, the FADA report doesn’t account for Madhya Pradesh, Lakshadweep and Telangana. Moreover, this accounts for registrations and not sales.
Despite the comparatively high asking price, the premium e-scooters are gaining popularity, hinting that the customers are perhaps considering EVs as a replacement to the ICE scooters rather than as a secondary vehicle.
