Tata Altroz Turbo DCT Makes Its Spy Shot Debut

It’s expected to reach showrooms by early-2021

  • The Altroz Turbo will utilize a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine developing 110PS and 140Nm.

  • It will come paired with a 7-speed DCT that will be sold alongside a manual gearbox.

  • Altroz Turbo is likely to be priced from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

It's no secret that Tata Motors is working on a zestier turbo-petrol variant of the Altroz. The specifications and variants of the upcoming model have also been revealed via an RTO document. While the Altroz Turbo will come with a manual gearbox, a spy shot has now confirmed that the carmaker will also offer an automatic variant.

The automatic transmission, in question, will be a 7-speed dual-clutch unit, a first for a Tata car. This gearbox will be coupled with Tata's 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine that does duty in the Nexon as well. However, this engine has been detuned in the Altroz. It develops 110PS, a full 10PS less than the SUV.Its torque rating stands at 140Nm, 30Nm less than the Nexon.

The Altroz power figures are on par with the competition including the Volkswagen Polo TSI. However, it's 10PS short when compared to the i20's turbo-petrol engine. Here are the detailed specifications of all three models:

There won't be any changes to its design but Tata could offer it in a sportier blue color that looks similar to the Nexon's Tectonic Blue shade. A turbo badge at the rear denotes you're driving the faster Altroz. The interior and feature list is likely to be similar to the standard model.

A launch timeline for the Altroz Turbo is yet to be determined, but we expect it to reach showrooms by early-2021. The addition of an automatic variant will make the Altroz more appealing, since its rivals, the Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Honda Jazz, can be had with a two-pedal setup. We expect the Altroz Turbo to be priced from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
