  • New features include a sunroof and wireless phone charger.

  • Could command a premium of a lakh over petrol-only model.

Tata Motors’ next launch for our market will come in the form of the Altroz CNG. Pre-launch bookings are open and the eco-friendly hatch will debut the carmaker’s twin-cylinder technology, which takes up less space in the boot, allowing you to store more luggage unlike its rivals. We have got our hands on the upcoming model’s boot space figure.

210 litres. That’s the amount of space you get with the Tata Altroz CNG. This number is much better than its immediate rivals – the Maruti Suzuki Baleno CNG and Toyota Glanza CNG – both of which get one single tank taking up most of the space in the trunk. In fact, if you want to have a perspective of the Toyota Glanza CNG’s boot, check out this story

The Tata Altroz CNG will be offered in more variants than what was initially announced: XE, XM+ XM+ (S), XZ+, XZ+ (S) and XZ+ O (S). And more good news comes from the fact that the CNG model will debut the sunroof in the Altroz. And even better news for potential customers is that this much loved feature will be offered from the mid-spec XM+ (S) trim.

Other notable features on board include a wireless phone charger (new), digitised instrument cluster (a la Tiago CNG), a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control and cruise control. Passenger safety is taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors with camera.

Powering the Altroz CNG is the carmaker’s 1.2-litre engine putting out 73.5PS and 103Nm in CNG mode. It will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission only.

The Tata Altroz CNG is expected to go on sale soon and we suspect it to command a premium of around a lakh over the petrol model starting from Rs 6.6 lakh (ex-showroom).
