Leaked Images Suggest The New Force Gurkha Could Be Launched Soon

The production-spec version was showcased at Auto Expo 2020

  • Images of the Gurkha seem to be from a brochure of the SUV.

  • Its exterior design is similar to that of the model showcased at the Expo.

  • It is likely to be powered by a 90PS 2.6-litre diesel engine, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

We’ve gotten our hands on what appears to be images from the upcoming new-gen Force Gurkha’s brochure, hinting that the SUV could be launched in the coming months.

The new-gen Gurkha was showcased last year at Auto Expo just before the pandemic hit India. Since then, the launch of the SUV has been put on hold, with no official reasons explaining the delay. However, these new images indicate its imminent launch.

From these images, you can notice the car basically looks the same from the outside when compared to the model showcased at the expo (like a budget G-Class). It has the same upright stance, design elements such as LED headlamps and a single-slat grille, and what are probably the same alloy wheels. It’s on the inside that we may find some changes, such as a different colour scheme (the expo model sported a dual-tone interior) and different features depending on the variant, as indicated by recent spy shots

Expect the Gurkha to offer more features than before. New additions will include an aftermarket touchscreen infotainment system, powered front windows, LED headlamps with DRLs, LED tail lamps, dual airbags, and ABS.

Under the hood, we expect the Gurkha to be powered by a 2.6-litre diesel engine that puts out 90PS and 230Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Another 2.2-litre diesel unit, which puts out 140PS and 321Nm, was revealed in 2019. This engine could also be added to the mix later on.

Thanks to these updates, the new Gurkha is likely to be priced at a premium over its predecessor which retailed from Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 13.30 lakh. As before, it will continue its rivalry with the new Thar, a worthy adversary to this off-roader, and also face competition from the upcoming Maruti Jimny.
