Jaguar XE

If you have been waiting for a diesel-powered variant of the Jaguar XE, your prayers have been answered. Jaguar has launched the 2.0-litre diesel variants of the XE in India at a starting price of Rs 38.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the 'Pure' variant. Other variants, namely 'Prestige' and 'Portfolio' are priced at Rs 42.04 lakh and Rs 46.34 lakh respectively. This new diesel engine now accompanies the older 2.0-litre petrol engine which was already present in the lineup. Also, the entry-level 'Pure' variant powered by the 2.0-litre petrol still remain the most affordable at Rs 37.25 Lakh.

This 2.0-litre diesel unit in the XE is same as the one which powers the XF and F-Pace as well. It is a 1,999cc four-cylinder unit which produces 180PS of power at 4,000rpm and 430Nm of torque between 1,750-2,500rpm. This power is sent to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. In this configuration, the car can reach triple digit speeds from standstill in 7.8 seconds and has a top speed of 228kmph. The petrol engine available is also a 1,999cc 4-cylinder unit but produces 200PS of power and 320Nm of torque. It gets the same 8-speed auto transmission as well sending power to the rear wheels. The 0-100kmph time is 7.7 seconds and the top speed is 237kmph.

In terms of features, the diesel is on par with its gasoline-powered brother. It gets Jaguar Drive Control which lets the driver choose between Normal, Eco, Dynamic or Rain Ice Snow DRIVE modes. These affect the steering and throttle mapping. Some other features include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 80W Jaguar Sound System with 6 speakers or 380W Meridian Sound System (standard on Prestige & Portfolio) and, not to mention, a lot of leather.

With the diesel engine now in play, the XE is a far worthier competition to rivals like the Mercedes-Benz C220d, Audi A4 35 TDI and the BMW 320d.
