Honda Amaze 2018 At Auto Expo: In Pics

Honda has revealed the 2nd generation Amaze compact sedan at the Auto Expo 2018. This comes 5 years after the first Amaze was launched in the country. Unlike the first generation Amaze, Honda claims that the new Amaze is based on an all-new platform.

To be launched by March 2019 the new Honda Amaze will try to take on the runaway leader of the compact-sedan segment, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, or at least be on par or above other competitors in the segment including the Tata Tigor, Ford Aspire, Hyundai Xcent and the Volkswagen Ameo.

Honda claims the new Amaze boasts a bolder design, a sophisticated and spacious interior, more efficient powertrains, has great driving dynamics with a focus on a stable ride and good handling and is equipped with the latest safety tech.

The design is certainly bolder than before; gone is the gentle, flowing design of the older model - inspired by the Brio hatchback, instead the new Amaze gets a sharper and angular design.

There are some similarities to Honda's larger cars, with features like the 'wing'-like chrome grille, a clamshell bonnet and pentagonal fog lamps surrounds.

The headlamp design is similar to the one on the Honda WR-V in terms of theme; a halogen lamp with reflectors for headlights along with LED DRLs running along the bottom of the unit and integrated indicators.

The grille and air dam have a meshed design with a hexagonal theme.

The boxy design continues to the side with a prominent shoulder line extending from the headlights to the taillamps. The glasshouse seems larger than before.

The alloy wheels design is sporty without being too garish - the dual-spoke fan-like design 15-inch wheels are shod with Bridgestone Ecopia 175/65R15 tyres

Honda claims the new Amaze has a longer wheelbase than before, this should translate to better interior space.

From the rear quarter, the new Amaze has a last-gen ('arrowhead') Honda City-like vibe. Highlights include the large angular taillamps with a part of the taillamps extending onto the bootlid, the lip-spoiler and the flat-ish bumper.

Inside, the Amaze has the same black and beige theme as before but gets a new dashboard design.

The highlight of the dashboard is the new touchscreen infotainment screen that now sits under the central AC vents with a new set of air con controls below.

There is a new, chunky steering wheel that also has buttons for the new cruise control feature that debuts in the Amaze.

While engine options are not expected to change, Honda has confirmed that the new Amaze will be offered with diesel-CVT variants. Honda says its CVTs can handle the extra torque of a diesel engine and be smoother than an AMT
