You Can Book The City Hybrid At Select Honda Dealerships

The mass market hybrid sedan will break cover on April 14 and is expected to go on sale in May

  • City hybrid unofficial bookings open at select dealerships.
  • Pairs a 109PS electric motor with 98PS 1.5-litre petrol engine.
  • Will be based on the City’s top-spec trim.
  • Prices are expected to be around Rs 18 lakh.

The new City Hybrid, slated for unveiling on April 14, will be the next launch for Honda in the Indian market. Select dealers have now commenced unofficial pre-launch bookings, and we expect the greener sedan to launch in May. The City Hybrid’s specifications put it on par with the more powerful Skoda Slavia and Volkswagen Virtus 1.5-litre TSI.

The City Hybrid features Honda’s new dual-motor e-HEV powertrain. Primarily, drive will be sent to the front wheels by a 109PS electric motor, with the 98PS 1.5-litre petrol engine coming into assistance for more power. The second electric motor, on the other hand, acts as a starter and generator. So like the Camry, you can drive the City in pure EV power or a mix of both.

The more powerful Honda City is likely to be limited to the top-spec trim. So it should get all the bells and whistles, including the 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a semi-digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six airbags, and electronic stability control.

Internationally, the City hybrid also gets rear disc brakes and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation braking system, and blind spot detection. We hope the India-spec model gets these features as well.

In terms of design, the Honda City hybrid will look largely similar to the standard model. We hope it gets the RS trim, which features subtle design upgrades for a sportier look. You can read about the Honda City RS in detail here

Prices for the Honda City hybrid are expected to be around the Rs 18 lakh mark (ex-showroom). More details to follow soon, so stay tuned.
