Aprilia’s SXR 160 was definitely the highlight of Auto Expo 2020 for two-wheeler enthusiasts. The cross-maxi, as the Italian brand calls it, made a statement with its styling. Sadly, Aprilia has delayed the launch of the SXR 160 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and you can find out the revised launch date here. In an interview with Diego Graffi, CEO and MD Piaggio Vehicles Private Ltd, we also found out that the Aprilia SXR 125’s India launch has been delayed too. The upcoming 125cc scooter will make its debut in January 2021 at the earliest. According to Graffi, the brand has been forced to extend the development time of the scooter due to the ongoing lockdown.

The upcoming 125cc offering is an important product for Aprilia as it will make the SXR more affordable. The SXR 160 will be the most premium and expensive scooter from Aprilia India. Styling of the SXR 125 will be similar to its 160cc sibling, with the only difference being revised graphics and new colour options. On the features front, the Aprilia SXR 125 is expected to get a LED headlight, an all-digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth connectivity and an LED taillight.

Powering the Aprilia SXR 125 will be the same 125cc motor that powers the Aprilia SR 125, It produces 10PS and 9.7Nm of peak torque. Since the SXR 125 runs on smaller 12-inch wheels on either end, it is expected to offer more storage space than the SR 125. Unlike the Aprilia SXR 160, the SXR 125 is likely to get a drum brake at the rear and it will also skip ABS to reduce cost.

Once launched, the Aprilia SXR 125 will compete with the Suzuki Burgman Street. As for pricing, we expect it to retail for around RS 1.05 lakh (ex-showroom), undercutting the SXR 160 by Rs 15,000.
