Aprilia SR 160 Expert Review
The Aprilia SR 160 distinguishes itself among scooters thanks to its sporty aesthetics and a performance-driven character.
Design
The design of the SR 160 is contemporary and vibrant, incorporating subtle updates in its most recent version that enhance its sporty allure. Notable attributes, such as the LED headlight, faux carbon fiber detailing, and a revamped taillight, contribute to its eye-catching aesthetics. Nonetheless, there is room for improvement in certain aspects, like the turn indicators.
Engine, Performance And Mileage
The SR 160 gets the same mechanics as its predecessor and as such, it is powered by a 160cc, 3-valve, single-cylinder engine delivering 11PS and 11.6Nm. Beyond 30kmph, it provides lively acceleration. The engine's refinement has seen enhancements, although there's a hint of vibration at higher speeds. While the scooter offers a comfortable ride for urban commutes, reaching triple-digit speeds may require some patience.
Handling And Ride Quality
Equipped with 14-inch wheels, the SR 160 provides stability and inspires confidence when navigating corners. Its agility and ride comfort have been notably enhanced, resulting in a pleasurable ride. Nevertheless, the braking performance, although sufficient, could benefit from more assertiveness, and the single-channel ABS system may cause the rear wheel to lock up during aggressive braking maneuvers.
Comfort
The SR 160's rider triangle remains the same, and we feel that the new seat could’ve had more padding to ensure a more comfortable ride. Footboard space is sufficient, but the scooter doesn't offer a multi-function keyhole or an external fuel filler cap, which could have been convenient.
Features
The SR 160 features a fully digital instrument panel complete with a mode button for instant access to a range of information. It provides data such as fuel efficiency, maximum speed, and ambient temperature. Optional extras include a Bluetooth module for call and message notifications. Notably, it doesn't include turn-by-turn navigation, a feature found in some rival models. The scooter also includes a standard underseat light and USB charger for added convenience.
Should You Buy The Aprilia SR 160?
The revised SR 160, while enjoyable and stable, does come with a relatively high price tag. When compared to competitors like the Yamaha Aerox 155, which offers better value for money, the SR 160's pricing could be a potential deterrent for certain buyers.

- All three scooters are good in their forte. If you're looking for a fast, fun to ride and feature-rich scooter, the TVS Ntorq 125 is the right choice for you. It still remains the benchmark for performance in its class and the sporty styling adds to its appeal. Our only grouse is the premium pricing post the BS6 update. Whereas Aprilia SR 160 features an updated motor that offers more performance than before, Fuel-injection makes for a smoother motor, the best handling scooter in the country. On the other hand, At Rs 1.29 lakh, the Yamaha Aerox 155 is the most expensive scooter manufactured in India. The Aerox isn’t a practical scooter and clearly doesn’t offer great value. What it offers in abundance, however, is uniqueness, excitement and fun! Yamaha could have taken the easier way out with the NMax, but they chose to go bold and offered us something distinct and youthful.
