Aprilia aims to start 2021 with a big bang! From maxi scooters to mid-displacement sportbikes, here’s what we expect from the brand in the next 365 days

2020 has been everyone’s worst nightmare so let’s not bother with the past and instead look forward to what’s to come. Italian manufacturer Aprilia, for instance, has a couple of interesting launches scheduled for 2020. From maxi scooters to mid-displacement sportbikes, here’s what we expect from the brand in this new year.

SXR 125

Expected Price: Rs 1.05 lakh

Expected Launch: Q2 2021

Aprilia has already launched the SXR 160 in India, and will soon follow it with the smaller SXR 125. The only difference between the two models is the powertrain. The smaller maxi-scooter will employ the same powerhouse that’s seen on the SR 125 and Storm 125 -- a 124.7cc, single-cylinder engine that makes 9.65PS and 9.9Nm. SR 160 Facelift

Expected Price: Rs 1.10 lakh - Rs 1.14 lakh

Expected Launch: Q3 2021

The SR 160 may finally be updated in 2021 with cosmetic enhancements and features that’ll give customers more reasons to consider the scooter. While you may not see a complete overhaul we believe Aprilia may give the SR 160 a much-needed facelift. This could include a reprofiled front end giving it a sharper look, LED lights and hopefully a full-digital instrument console. Expect to see sporty new colour schemes as well.

RS 660

Expected Price: Rs 13 lakh

Expected Launch: Q3

Aprilia is known for producing some of the best sportbikes in the world. It’s already well established in the litre-class segment so it’s now shifting its focus on reviving the mid-displacement 600 space. The firstborn will be the ravishing RS 660 -- a fully-faired sportbike that is based on Aprilia’s all-new 659cc parallel-twin platform. The Euro 5/ BS6 compliant engine is tuned to make 100PS at 10,500rpm and 67Nm of peak torque at 8,500rpm. Accompanying the powertrain are a host of electronics, a decent set of hardware and a premium price tag. More on the bike here.

Tuono 660

Expected Price: Rs 12 lakh

Expected Launch: Q3

The faired sibling will be supplemented by the introduction of the Tuono 660. It’ll share the exact same engine, however, in a different state of tune in a bid to make the power more usable with better response at lower rpms. In other words, the Tuono will make 95PS compared to the RS which belts out 101PS. Both bikes will be imported into the country via the CBU route, so be prepared for hefty price tags.
