Honda Begins Its Battery Swapping Service In Bengaluru

Honda has announced the start of its battery swapping service together with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). Honda Power Pack Energy India Private Limited (HEID) is the Japanese company’s subsidiary to begin battery swap service in India.
HEID’s battery swap service is initially intended for electric auto rickshaws, and thus will enable drivers to swap discharged batteries (Honda Mobile Power Pack e:) with fully charged ones. These battery packs will also be used for Honda’s future electric two-wheelers.
The company has set up its battery-swap station, called Honda Power Pack Exchanger e:, at five metro stations across Bengaluru – KR Market, National College, Banashankari, Trinity and Baiyappanahalli.
The company intends to expand this network of battery swapping stations to over 70 installations across Bengaluru by July 2023. Using Bengaluru as a pilot city, Honda will look at the overall success before expanding this service to other cities in a phased manner.

Honda has stated that it is building an electric two-wheeler for India from the ground up. The Japanese brand’s Benly-e electric B2B scooters were spotted testing its swappable battery tech in Bengaluru. So, how long could it be before we see the launch of the Honda Activa Electric?
