Apart from this, Honda will also launch a 100cc commuter bike with competitive pricing this year

We’ve already known for a while that an electric version of the world’s best-selling scooter, Honda Activa, has been in the works for the Indian market. Now, it’s revealed that Honda is set to launch the Activa Electric very soon.

HMSI MD and CEO Atsushi Ogata has revealed that the bikemaker is likely to launch the Activa Electric by March 2024.

Interestingly, the upcoming e-scooter will be based on the Honda Activa 6G with an electric drivetrain to power it. It will also get a fixed battery pack, quite opposite of the swappable battery trend in EVs. The claimed top speed of this e-scooter is said to be 50kmph. This indicates that the Activa Electric will grab the market share of the likes of Okinawa and Hero Electric scooters, both in terms of pricing and performance.

Honda is also working on another electric scooter for the Indian market based on a new platform which will get the swappable battery technology with two swappable battery packs. It could be offered for both consumers and businesses. The latter could be the Honda Benly e:, as it was already spotted testing several times. Expect the consumer e-scooter with the swappable battery pack to be a relatively higher performance scooter rivalling the likes of Ola S1, Bajaj Chetak, Hero Vida V1 and TVS iQube Electric.

In terms of charging network in India, Honda already has 6,000 existing touch points (dealers, service points, etc) across the country which will be equipped with battery-swapping facilities.
