The Tiago-based sedan will officially go on sale on March 29, 2017
Update March 29, 2017: Tata Tigor Launched At Rs 4.70 Lakh
Tata's latest offering, the Tigor, can now be booked across Tata dealerships in the country. One can book the car by paying a token amount of Rs 5000.
The Tigor is based on Tata's latest hatchback, the Tiago. Tata has broken free from a conventional compact sedan design, and has tried a unique notchback styling approach ("Styleback" in Tata talk). The design does look proportionate and inviting, and there are quite a few little updates that distinguish it from the hatch.
Most importantly, the wheelbase of the Tata Tigor has been stretched over the Tiago by a full 50mm (unlike other compact sedans like the Swift DZire and the Figo Aspire). The rear door is larger, and the rear seat is reclined a tad more which ups the comfort quotient.
There's some more equipment offered compared to the Tiago as well. For instance, the Tigor offers a touchscreen infotainment system (that gets its own suite of smartphone apps), automatic climate control and a rear armrest with cupholders. The boot space is an astonishing 419-litres. That's more than the Zest!

On the engine front, the Tigor carries over the 85PS 1.2-litre petrol and the 70PS 1.05-litre diesel mill. Both engines will only be available with a 5-speed manual transmission for the time being. We expect the petrol-AMT variant to make its way to the lineup soon, considering the Tiago already features the AMT.
The Tigor does have what it takes to be the next big thing from Tata Motors, especially considering its rumoured price tag of Rs 4.2 lakh to Rs 6.5 lakh. That slots it a rung lower than Tata's other compact sedan, the Zest, prices for which span from Rs 5.24 lakh to Rs 8.68 lakh.
