Kawasaki Z650RS Spotted Testing, India Launch Soon

The India-spec bike gets grab rails at the rear and a license plate holder different to the model sold internationally

It has only been a few weeks since the Kawasaki Z650RS’ launch overseas, and the bike has now been spotted testing in India. The test mule is similar to the international-spec bike, only with a couple of minor changes.

The India-spec model gets a proper split grab rail for the pillion, and the license plate has been mounted above the headlight, unlike the international model’s unit that’s placed below. Apart from that, the bike is pretty much identical to the one launched overseas. We also expect Kawasaki to add the saree guard, and we hope that’s done in good taste.

It’ll be powered by the same 649cc parallel-twin motor as the Z650, belting 68PS and 64Nm. The underpinnings also seem the same; you get a telescopic front fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock. Braking hardware consists of radially mounted dual 300mm discs up front and a 220mm rear disc.

You get twin analogue pods with an LCD in between for the instrument cluster. The Z650RS gets chrome bits all around to complement its retro charm.

Expect Kawasaki to launch the Z650RS in India sometime around November this year. It’ll be brought here via the CKD (completely knocked down) route, and the asking price is expected to be around Rs 7.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and Honda CB650R
