The sub-4m SUV space is the busiest segment in India right now. And we know that Honda is working on a Hyundai Venue rival which might debut by 2021. Meanwhile, the segment above that, where the Kia Seltos and the 2020 Hyundai Creta thrive, is also experiencing a lot of action. So, what exactly does this HR-V spotting at its facility in Rajasthan tell us? Is Honda planning to take a crack at the compact SUV space?
We first reported about Honda’s plans to replace the ailing BR-V in India with the HR-V. The SUV was also spotted testing on our roads, although with heavy camouflage. All of these hinted at a possible launch in India back then.
Honda India hasn't been very vocal about its plans for the HR-V so far but there has been speculation and rumours about the HR-V’s debut for quite some time now. But there were reports that Honda did a feasibility study on the HR-V and decided to sack the plan as the carmaker couldn't see a business case for it. Going by that, it is clear that Honda does not intend to launch the HR-V in India.
That said, the three cars spotted here might be undergoing some testing. Latest up from Honda is the 2020 City which is launching soon. Honda also launched the updated WR-V in India. It currently retails the Jazz, WR-V, Amaze, City, Civic, BR-V, CR-V and the Accord in the country.
