These powerplants will also be updated to comply with the BS6 norms.
Expected to go on sale by this festive season.

The BR-V, based on the Mobilio, competes against the likes of the Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta. Honda now plans to replace the ailing BR-V in India with the new HR-V. The HR-V is a premium 5-seater SUV which is already on sale in markets abroad. Slated for launch by the upcoming festive season, the compact SUV was spotted testing for the first time in India.

The spied image shows the compact SUV wearing heavy camouflage, preventing us from making out the design elements. But the same SUV is already on sale in various other markets and we expect it to have more or less the similar styling.

The Honda BR-V was not exactly a hit among Indian customers, with struggling sales numbers of late. The HR-V is Honda’s solution to this and the SUV sold abroad is based on the same platform as the current-gen City and Jazz. And since it's based on the same platform, we also expect it to be powered by the same engines from the City. The 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines, though, are expected to receive upgrades to make them BS6 compliant as Honda had also made this clear. The 1.5-litre i-VTEC makes 119 PS along with 145 Nm while the 1.5-litre diesel i-DTEC produces 100PS and 200Nm of torque.

The UK-spec version of the compact SUV comes with various features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multiple airbags, Honda LaneWatch camera along with a panoramic sunroof, automatic LED headlamps and fog lamps. It also comes with cruise control, paddle shifters, automatic climate control system, leather upholstery, and an eight-way powered driver seat.

Expect the HR-V to be priced from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom India). Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks as well as the upcoming Duster facelift will be contenders in the space where the HR-V is entering.

Many would go for it because it comes with tried and tested 1.5 litre City engine and carries the Honda tag which has a great credibility in Indian automobile market. Now you have Creta, Tata Harrier, XUV 500, Nissan Kicks, Ford EcoSport, MG Hector in the market. How do you place HRV amongst them! Soon you will get T1 Cross from Volkswagen as well. Look wise the competition is stiff and Honda will be pushed back by many. Pricing too us not competitive. For ten lakhs and above you have all the more options.I believe WRV was a better option and should have been upgraded as 1500cc SUV with bigger body. It looks much more macho.Anyway good luck to Honda Motors. I keep my fingers crossed! ...Read More I feel reliability, cost and availability of parts, aerodynamic look, service cost, fuel economy all are above Mahindra, Tata, Nissan, Ford, Hyundai. MG is yet to prove themselves. Also, some rumors say it'll get engine options as the new Civic. I would anyday go for Honda as it can go upto 2 lakh kms plus. Apurva | 7 years ago Though the exact look of the car is not clear still what I gather from other images presented herein does not make me believe it is actually a SUV. It looks somewhat like a MPV or a station wagon. Whatever be the case HRV is not going to impress by its looks at first go. WRV is still closer to SUV and could find a better market if expanded with a bigger engine and more space. It looks much macho too which is very crucial for a SUV. Pricing too will be an issue.
