Other models like the Royal Enfield Classic and Thunderbird to receive a single-channel ABS soon

Royal Enfield

In March 2016, the government passed a notification saying that all two-wheelers with a displacement of more than 125cc will need to be equipped with ABS from April 1, 2018. Hence, Royal Enfield’s entire range is expected to get the safety net of ABS quite soon.

However, not all models are expected to get dual-channel ABS. According to sources, motorcycles such as the Classic and Thunderbird will only get single-channel ABS. The Himalayan, on the other hand, is the only motorcycle from RE’s range that is likely to receive dual-channel ABS. Both systems should help keep the bike from slipping in wet road conditions. However, single-channel ABS is less effective since it only keeps the front wheels in check under panic braking. What is interesting to note here is that the export-spec Himalayan is already equipped with a dual-channel ABS.

So what about the upcoming 650 twins - the Interceptor and the Continental GT. Well, they are likely to feature a dual-channel ABS as well. After all, these two motorcycles are set to be Royal Enfield’s flagship offering in India and abroad.

We expect Royal Enfield to hike prices of all the models equipped with a single-channel ABS to be hiked by Rs 5,000. The Himalayan, on the other hand, is likely to become pricier by Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 in India.
