The already dynamic SUV just got a pretty serious upgrade

The Land Rover Discovery SVX

With Land Rover unveiling the 2019 Discovery SVX at the Frankfurt motor show, it seems to us that Christmas has come early this year. The Discovery SVX, developed by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) department, will hit showrooms around the world in the third quarter of next year. So what makes it special then? Well, the fact that the Discover SVX was developed by SVO, who’ve given us some pretty bonkers cars like the F-Type SVR, Range Rover Sports SVR and the XE Project 8 in the recent past, should make you squeal with joy.

The Discovery has always been a very capable off-roader. With the SVX, the Tata-owned carmaker has ensured that the SVX will climb anything and wade through any obstacle you throw at it, in style of course.

This beast of an SUV is powered by a supercharged, 5.0-litre, V8 engine which produces 525PS of power and 625Nm of torque. It is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission with a twin speed transfer box. The Discovery’s traditional rotary dial shifter has been replaced with a ‘Pistol Shifter’ too. How cool is that? The company claims that this will make selecting gears in off-road conditions much easier than before.

The Discovery SVX also comes with large 20-inch forged alloy wheels with 275/55 R20 tyres. The higher sidewalls help it reduce contact pressure and bump up performance. The aggressive tread pattern is designed in such a way that it can handle any type of terrain. Raised air suspension with long travel dampers gives this SUV a higher centre of gravity when compared to the regular Discovery.

Inside, the Discovery looks even more appealing with its unique colour and material combination. The orange accents make their way here too. Just like the jet in X-Men, the seats come with an ‘X’ logo perforated on them.

In terms of design, the SVX sports a more aggressive look thanks to newly designed front and rear bumpers, skid plates, and a built in rear winch. The exposed orange accents add that tangerine icing on the cake. It also comes with a Narvik Black Dynamic front grille, a swanky light bar on the roof and silver roof rails.

Land Rover has said that the model on display is a close preview of the production car that will be hand-built by SVO starting next year.
