Ducati Scrambler 1100 Spied In India

After unveiling it at the 2017 EICMA Motor Show, Ducati seems to be all set to launch the Scrambler 1100 in India now. Recent spy images suggest the motorcycle should start arriving at dealerships soon. Hence, a launch in the next few months should not be surprising.

While it is available in three variants internationally - Standard, Special and Sport - we expect only the base and Sports variants of the Scrambler to come here. However, the Special variant may go on sale later in the year, for a limited amount of time. Each variant is targeted at a different customer base.

For example, the Special variant would find a lot of buyers in the hip urban custom scene. Don’t believe us? Just take a look at its unique Custom Grey colour, brushed-effect swingarm and adjustable front forks with golden anodized sleeves, all screaming for attention. Not to mention the blacked-out spoked wheels, chrome exhausts, and aluminium front/rear mudguards, to top off the look.

The Sport variant, on the other hand, is meant for more performance-hungry buyers. To justify its name, it gets high-performance Ohlins suspension at both ends and aluminium wheels with machine-finished spokes. Along with it, you also get tapered handlebars and a seat with a dedicated lining. Aesthetics have been given good attention here. It gets a slick Viper Black colour scheme with yellow tank sides and dual yellow striping down the middle of the tank and mudguards.

All three motorcycles carry similar set of features, like an all-new headlight with an LED ring around the rim that acts as DRLs, and an LED tail lamp. The instrument cluster is now fully digital, but designed to resemble the one found on the original 1970’s Scrambler. The electronics package includes five-level traction control, three riding modes - Active, Touring and City, inertial measurement unit (IMU) and cornering ABS.

Powering the Scrambler 1100 is an updated version of the two-valve air-/oil-cooled 1079cc L-twin engine from the Monster 1100 EVO. This motor churns out 86PS of power at 7500rpm and 88.4Nm of torque at 4750rpm.

Obviously, fitting this err… monster of an engine into the petite housing of the Scrambler is not possible. So the Scrambler 1100 now gets a new twin upper spar steel trellis frame with the aluminium subframe completing the rear. The Standard and Special variants ride on 45mm Kayaba USD forks and a monoshock unit at the rear, both adjustable for rebound damping and spring preload. As mentioned earlier, the Sport gets Ohlins suspensions on both ends. Braking setup consists of 330mm discs up front and a two-piston Brembo calliper at the rear squeezing a 245mm disc.

Placed at the top of Ducati's Scrambler lineup, the Scrambler 1100 is expected to have an asking price of Rs 11 lakh to 12 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival the Triumph Thruxton R, which is priced at Rs 11.92 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
