Likely to be priced from Rs 20 lakh onwards, strong-hybrid to be much more expensive.
The Toyota Innova Hycross has been unveiled globally in Indonesia and is coming to India in just a few days; on November 25 to be exact. It's the next-generation Innova that will bring a slew of firsts to its name badge, but one of its key highlights is the electrified variant that is set to become India’s most affordable three-row strong-hybrid vehicle.
Innova Hycross strong-hybrid specs
While mild-hybrids have been around for a few years, strong-hybrids have only just been introduced in popular nameplates – with the Honda City e:HEV and Grand Vitara hybrid that arrived earlier this year. Strong-hybrid cars run on petrol power as well as electricity, making them more fuel and emissions-efficient (albeit also more expensive) than ICE-only and mild-hybrid vehicles.
In the Innova Hycross MPV’s case, the strong-hybrid powertrain comprises a new 2-litre petrol engine that makes 152PS and 187Nm, paired with a powerful 113PS and 205Nm electric motor.
With a combined output of 186PS, the Innova Hycross makes more power than all previous iterations of the Innova.
The strong-hybrid variants of the MPV are expected to be priced at around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh, depending on the trim level. Even with a high price, the Innova Hycross will be a less expensive alternative to the only other strong-hybrid MPV in the market, also a Toyota product, the Vellfire.
The Vellfire luxury MPV costs Rs 94.45 lakh, so the Innova Hycross could be up to a whopping Rs 60+ lakh more affordable (all prices ex-showroom). This will easily make the Innova Hycross India’s most affordable three-row offering with a strong-hybrid powertrain when it breaks cover.
If you want the same MPV for less money, the Innova Hycross will also be offered with a standard 2-litre petrol engine good for 174PS and 205Nm that will be paired with a CVT automatic.
