Toyota strives to stay on top of delivery timelines for buyers who have already ordered their Innovas

  • Petrol-powered Innova with 2.7-litre unit is still available to order as before.

  • Gets 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes.

  • Petrol Innova Crysta costs between Rs 17.45 lakh and Rs 23.83 lakh.

  • New Innova with strong hybrid powertrain to launch around early 2023.

Earlier in August, Toyota had stopped taking orders for the diesel variants of the Innova Crysta. Now, the carmaker has assured that the halt is temporary and that it’s working to deliver the diesel Innova to customers who had already booked their MPVs.

According to Toyota, the “very high demand pattern which has resulted in an increased waiting period for the diesel variant of Innova Crysta, TKM (Toyota Kirloskar Motors) has decided to temporarily stop taking orders for the diesel variant.”

The petrol-powered Innova is still available to book with a 2.7-litre engine under its bonnet. It can be had with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. It makes 166PS and 245Nm, 16PS more power but 98Nm less torque than the 2.4-litre diesel unit.

Similar to other carmakers, ongoing global supply chain issues may have affected the production of the 2.4-litre turbo diesel-powered Innova. Although we don’t have the breakup of official sales figures by fuel type, it’s easy to understand the popularity of the diesel-powered Innova given its fuel economy claim of 15.57kmpl. In comparison, the petrol variant offers a claimed 10.5kmpl.

That said, the diesel engine could later be replaced with a strong hybrid powertrain when the new Innova, likely to be called the Innova Hycross, debuts globally later this year. Toyota already offers multiple petrol-electric hybrid powertrains in its vehicles overseas and will soon become the first brand in India to offer a strong hybrid option in the compact SUV segment with the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Meanwhile, the new generation Innova is expected to make its Indian debut at Auto Expo 2023.
