UPDATE: Toyota India has launched the Urban Cruiser Taisor from Rs 7.74 lakh (ex-showroom)

  • The latest teaser reveals the front grille, LED DRLs and connected tail lamps.

  • Different interior colour scheme from the Fronx.

  • Likely to come equipped with features such as 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control and up to six airbags.

  • Expected to be priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).

Toyota has released a teaser offering a first look at its upcoming crossover, the Taisor, ahead of its official debut on April 3rd. The carmaker had previously confirmed the launch of a sub-4m crossover based on the Maruti Fronx, likely to be named Urban Cruiser Taisor, in a trademark filing.

The latest teaser reveals the upcoming crossover's revised honeycomb grille, along with new LED DRLs reminiscent of those on the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Additionally, we can catch a glimpse of the connected LED tail lamps at the rear, featuring a different motif.

Furthermore, the teaser showcases an orange shade, a hue unavailable with the India-spec Fronx but offered with the South African model. These updated styling elements distinguish it from its sibling, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, and we anticipate bespoke alloy wheels to further add to that differentiation.

Given the approach taken by other Toyota-Maruti rebadged products, the Taisor is likely to undergo minor interior updates. While the overall layout of the cabin may remain unchanged, expect a different colour scheme for the dashboard, doors, and central console that should help it distinguish from the Fronx.

Features-wise, the Taisor should come equipped with all the features available with the Fronx, such as a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, a heads-up display, wireless phone charging, multi-info display, cruise control, and automatic climate control.

In terms of safety, it will include up to six airbags, electronic stability program (ESP), hill-hold assist, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and ABS with EBD.

No changes are expected in the powertrain department. The Taisor should be powered by the same 90 PS 1.2-litre petrol engine, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. Additionally, it is expected to be offered with a 100 PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. One can also expect a CNG option to be available post launch.

We expect the prices of the Toyota Taisor to range between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom). It will rival other sub-4m SUVs such as the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza and Mahindra XUV300.
