EXCLUSIVE: Auto Engina’s Parallel-twin, 822cc Himalayan Starts To Take Shape

In the last chapter of Auto Engina’s modified 822cc, parallel-twin Royal Enfield Himalayan, the monstrous engine is sputtered to life for the first time. Since then, a lot of work has gone into this custom-built adventure bike that’s prepping for Rider Mania debut later this November. 

The biggest and most significant change since our last update is that the massive 822cc, parallel-twin motor has been mounted onto a frame, and the motorcycle is now taking shape. This is not the final design, of course; that will follow next with the help of Pune’s Autologue Design. In this phase, this one-of-a-kind Himalayan is simply window shopping for parts and mods, which will work best with that one-of-a-kind engine.

Here are some of the changes that are currently underway:

• Revised engine mounting points. 

• Chassis reinforcement.   

• Two-into-one exhaust pipe and routing. 

• Redesigning clutch assembly hub.
  
  

• Revised swing arm to support the bigger engine. 

• First platform + engine compatibility ride complete.
  Initial findings:  
  1. Initial torque is missing. 
  2. Strong mid-range. 
  3. Reduction in vibrations compared to stock Himalayan (Stock Himalayan itself gets counterbalancers for refinement).

It’s interesting to be able track a build like this one in close proximity. It’s not everyday us enthusiasts get a chance to witness a motorcycle get heart-enlargement surgery and crank to tell the tale. For the next phase, we will try to get our hands on the motorcycle and run a few performance tests of our own to see what’s what. This is going to be exciting!
