Honda City Hybrid Waiting Period Climbs Up To Six Months, Even Before Its Launch

The new Honda City hybrid seems to have generated quite a buzz even before its launch on May 4. It has already racked up enough orders to command a waiting period of six months, even before its introduction. Plus, the battery-powered variant is expected to contribute 10 percent of the overall City sales.
No doubt the greener aspect of the City hybrid must have generated interest from prospective car buyers. The sedan gets a 109PS electric motor, paired with a 98PS 1.5-litre petrol engine, and puts out a combined output of 126PS. Since the electric motor will primarily be in use, the sedan delivers an average of 26.5kmpl.

Another major talking point is the presence of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, a first-in- segment feature. The suite consists of adaptive cruise control, auto high beam assist, lane keeping assistant, lane departure warning and collision avoidance braking system. Plus, it will get a segment-first electronic parking brake with auto hold functionality.
There are minor visual changes as well. The Honda logo now gets a blue hue to denote it’s the greener model. Front fog lamps are placed in a bespoke housing, while the rear-end features a subtle spoiler and a diffuser with carbon-fibre effect. On the inside, save for the hybrid-specific instrument cluster, the cabin remains largely unchanged.
The Honda City hybrid is expected to be priced from around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), making it slightly more expensive than the 1.5-litre TSI variants of the Skoda Slavia and upcoming Volkswagen Virtus.
